Configuring ACS Part 17 - Geospatial Analytics

Geospatial Analytics in Db2 for i certainly seems to be a hot topic at all the conferences I'm attending at the moment. So, when I saw that Sir Scott of Forstie had added an example to Run SQL Scripts in the ACS 1.1.9.2 I thought it was worth a quick video to demonstrate this cool new function!

Configuring ACS Part 16 - Uploading Save Files from
PC to IBM i

Using the ACS Integrated File System (IFS) option is a better, more intuitive method of transferring save files to and from IBM i and your PC. This video shows you how easy it is to both upload and download a save file or indeed another file.

Configuring ACS Part 15 - Move Cursor to End of Paste

If you use the paste function in the 5250 command line, this small configuration change can make a big difference. But default when you paste a string into the 5250 command line, the cursor does not move, this video shows you how to get the cursor to move with the pasted text.

Configuring ACS Part 12 - Updating Java Runtime

Starting from ACS version 1.1.9.1 you can now use the check for updates function to update your Java Runtime as well as your version of ACS In this video, I walk you through the process of enabling and using this update function.

Configuring ACS Part 11 - Printer Emulation

In this session we look at how you can setup an IBM i Printer using ACS Printer Emulation. This allows anyone with an ACS session to pull spool files from their IBM i and push them out using a locally connected Windows Printer.

This is ideal for user VPN'd in from home or for users who want to print from IBM i to a USB connected printer.

Configuring ACS Part 10 - Changing 5250 Font

In this session we look at how to change the font used for IBM i 5250 Interactive session. As the display resolution of out workstations becomes larger, this is a really useful change that allows the 5250 session to scale up to fill the entire screen without wasting valuable screen space.

Configuring ACS Part 9 - Changing Workstation ID DEVD

In this session we look at how to change the value used for Workstation ID, IBM i 5250 Device Description & IBM i Interactive Job Name (they are the same thing).

We show how to avoid having to create individual HOD files for each new name, we look at basing names on a specific character string and also basing in on the User Name you logged into you workstation with, or indeed the user you logged into you workstation with (Windows, Linux, MacOS user)

Finally, we look at getting the label name on the session to match this Workstation ID.

Configuring ACS Part 8 - Updates and Roll Backs

In this video we look at how to upgrade ACS the automated updater, the manual method using an internet download and how to roll back an update if you decide you don't want to keep it.

Configuring ACS Part 7 - Custom Console Task Links

A hidden gem for SysAdmins was introduced in ACS 1.1.9, it is the ability to customise the name of two console links. This may not sound like much but when you have many systems to manage and some of the links you use do not fit the standard IBM descriptions, then this is truly useful.

Configuring ACS Part 6 - SSH Terminal

In this video, we look at how to enable this hidden option and configure it to use PuTTY as the SSH Terminal emulator.

ACS has a hidden option to enable an SSH Terminal to call up against any of your systems, just as you would any other part of ACS.

The HMC Console comes in two parts, the 5250 Command Line and also the HMC GUI, in this video we look at the right and the wrong way to configure them.

Configuring ACS Part 3 - System Groups

One of the cool new functions introduced in ACS v1.1.9 is called System Groups. As the name suggests, this allows you to logically group your IBM i Systems in Groups, this is great for those people who look after a larger number of #IBMi systems.
